The Government will mint a coin with Jefferson’s image 
ECUADOR, 08/07/2004. In a meeting of authorities of the Central Bank of Ecuador a few days ago, the government of Ecuador announced the minting of a series of commemorative coins in honor of the World and Olympic Champion, Jefferson Pérez Quezada. Among them was Mauricio Pareja, General Manager of the institution, who announced the State’s immense desire to issue these commemorative coins carrying the image of Jefferson through the Central Bank of Ecuador in the month of August or September.
The coins will be minted abroad and will be made of gold, silver and copper with the aim of reaching all socio-economic levels with these coins.
According to information by the Central Bank of Ecuador, about 5,000 commemorative coins will be issued, the draft designs to be officially presented in the near future.
Ecuadorian authorities declared that this coin issue will be realized as a homage that the country wishes to render to its most celebrated countryman, who by work and great perseverance has managed to promote a culture of success among Ecuadorians through his triumphs in sports. But above all, the great message contained in his words in various opportunities has managed to raise the self-esteem of an entire nation with one of his best-known phrases, "with no right to give up."
