Patricio Ortega will participate in the world track and field championship in Grosseto, Italy.

ECUADOR, 14/06/2004. Race walker Patricio Ortega will represent Ecuador in the World Track and Field Championship to be held from the 13th to the 18th of July in the city of Grosseto, Italy. Ortega will compete Saturday the 17th of July at 19h30 local time (11h30 Ecuadorian times) in the 10 km Walk in the junior category.

Patricio Ortega comes to this competition in his best form. "I feel very proud to represent my country and hope to do my best in this world event, also to demonstrate that my participation in this event I have earned based on effort and dedication," declared Ortega after the competition last weekend in Cuenca during the Junior Track and Field Grand Prix.

Ortega indicated that his immediate ambition is to win a medal in this World Championship. With respect to his future, he hopes to continue preparing to achieve better results in all the competitions in which he takes part. Also among his objectives is to achieve an "A" result in order to go to the Olympic Games of Beijing, China in 2008.

It should be pointed out that Ecuador has hopes for a great performance by Ortega for his antecedents, such as the World Cup of Race Walking last May in Germany where he was 30 meters from being proclaimed world champion.

The athlete is entering the final phase of his preparation before going to Italy where, without a doubt, he will give his all with the intention of representing his country in the best possible way.

Good luck, Patricio, we are confident of your ability to achieve your goal.
