Jefferson celebrates his birthday(July 1st) at training campo in Peru preparing for the World Championship in Finland in August

ECUADOR, 11/07/2005. Convinced of the great responsibility of representing his country against the best in the world at the next World Track and Field Championship at Helsinki, Finland, which begins August 6th.

Jefferson, along with his working group (Saquipay, Ortiz an Aviles) traveled to Peru for the purpose of dedicating themselves to daily training sessions and in this way attain the best physical and psychological shape to face their most important challenge of 2005. It isn’t the first time that Jeff celebrates his birthday abroad, as he has had to go trough this experience in the past due to being in training camps or competitions on this date.

At the start of his tear a leg injury kept him from participating in Mexico at the First Competition of the Challenge. Faced with this situation he immediately began a process of rehabilitation which lasted three weeks and was a success. Upon overcoming this phase, he began a new process with the goal of reaching his best form for Grand Prize of China in the month of May.

Absolutely everything went well up to the competition. Nevertheless, the day of the event things did not go as planned and Jefferson was relegated to a secondary position, clocking a time of more than 1 hour 30 minutes. This represented the second slowest time of his athletic career. It obligated a restructuring of this training plan, including momentarily suspending his Masters program in Business Administration begun in the month of January at the University of Azuay.

From here on there has been just one goal, the World Track and Field Championship in Helsinki Finland, where Jeff hopes to revalidat4e his title and world record achieved in 2003 in Paris, France. To this end he traveled to Peru with the intention of avoiding any element that could affect his concentration. He will be there until the end of July, after which he will leave for Finland to face his destiny.

Jefferson is accompanied by Rolando Saquipay, (current Pan American champion), who joined the Perez team six months ago. Also with the athletes are Physical Therapist Marcelo Aviles and Physical Assistant Manuel Ortiz, who will make their best efforts as well to achieve the goal of seeing both Jefferson and Rolando on the winners stand in Finland.
