Rolando Saquipay Champion and New Bolivarian Record, Jeff got the Second Place 
ARMENIA- COLOMBIA, 20/08/2005. In a cloudy morning and with all the runners in the starting line, each one of them with a thirst for triumph. The starting was giving for the 20 Km race walking event in the Bolivarian games being held in Armenia-Colombia. Thousands of spectators filled the streets of this Colombian city to witness the great level shown in this event, the Ecuadorian team obtained the 1-2 getting gold and silver medals.
This was the event that attracted the biggest amount of people because of the presence of the five times champion, to whom the assistants gave their respect and admiration with overwhelming clapping. The event was held in a 2000 meters circuit. Where all the runners went to get the gold medal. Since the beginning there was a strong fight between Jefferson, Rolando and the Colombian Restrepo, who bit by bit were leaving, Jefferson behind in the second group. At the 10th km. Rolando started to achieve big advantages with respect to the other runners, including Jefferson himself, who was trying to burn out the Colombian runner who was fighting for the first place. At around the 18 km, there was an incredible advantage of Saquipay with respect to the rest of the group, and his closest rival, Jefferson Pérez, of 200 meters.
Finally the finish line was receiving Rolando Saquipay as the new Champion or the event, with and incredible new Bolivarian Record of 1h:22m:51sec, four minutes faster than the last record made by Jefferson Perez in 1993. Jefferson arrived in second place with a time of 1h: 22m: 54sec. Restrepo got the Ecuadorian runners was once again shown to the world, who wish to achieve the World team title by teams in May 2006 in La Coruña-Spain.
It is important to note that Jefferson and Rolando wore a black ribbon in memory of the Ecuadorian who died in the sea when the ship in which they tried to migrate to the Us sank in Colombian waters.
