Jefferson elected “Second Best Ecuadorian of All Time among 10 finalists, the only one alive 
ECUADOR, 20/01/2006. The election of the most important person in the history of Ecuador consisted of two stages. The first in June selected 100 nominates and the second in October selected 10 finalists.
By a large number of votes sent through cell messages, former President of the Republic and hero of the Liberal Revolution, General Eloy Alfaro Delgado, was elected “The Best Ecuadorian of All Times”. This was part of an educational project supported by Ecuavisa and franchised by the BBC of London.
This is a project which tries to rescue the distinguish persons of a particular country, individuals who have transcended their occupations or positions. This survey included writers, painters, politicians, athletes, artists and other personalities of Ecuador. Beside Ecuavisa (television network) the media supported this project with the participation of high schools, universities, companies, private and public institutions with enthusiastically support the person each considered to be the Best Ecuadorian.
The votes for the “Old Fighter” represented 33.39% of the total.
The results were presented during a final show; broadcast live which took place at the “Sucre” National Theater in Quito.
At Second place with 19.91% of the votes, went to the speed walking athlete from Cuenca, Jefferson Perez, the only living candidate among the ten finalists.
