The first duel of the “Titans” in 2007 will take place in China, Saturday, the 24th of March 
ECUADOR, 24/03/2007. The Ecuadorian race walking team, led by Olympic and World Champion and world record-holder Jefferson Perez departed for China. He is accompanied by Rolando Saquipay and Andres Chocho and coaching assistant Manuel Ortiz. For Perez this will be his return to competition after a 10-month absence from world competition. His teammates, on the other hand, will be attempting to achieve a classifying time for the World Championship of Osaka (August 26th) and the Olympic Games of Beijing (August 2008)
The event will take place in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, and the organizers have confirmed the participation of the best race walkers in the world, among them the Italian Ivano Brugnetti, 2004 Olympic Championship, the Spaniard Francisco Fernandez, World Cup Champion in 2006. In addition there will be a series of well-known race walking stars from China, Russia and Mexico. This will be season opener for the majority of athletes who will be checking their performance with a view to reaching the World Championship in the best possible condition.
The competition will take place Saturday the 24th of March beginning at 9:00 am local time, 9:00 pm Ecuador time the 23rd of March. In view of the level of the competitors and the excellent conditions of the race circuit, times below 1h20min are expected for the majority of the elite athletes, and the winning time could be the best of the year.
The next event for the Ecuadorian race walkers will be the Rio Maior Grand Prize in Portugal and the Pan American Race Walking Cup in Brazil, the 14th and 21st of April, respectively.
