Guayaquil gives tribute to the three-time World Champion Jefferson Perez. 
ECUADOR, 11/09/2007. Different regions of our country continue to pay tribute to Jefferson Perez. This time it was the turn of the “Pearl of the Pacific”, where the best Latin-American athlete in history was recognized by authorities, sportive and educative institutions and mainly by the people of Guayaquil, who were happy with his presence. His day began in Quito, since the previous evening he had to attend several invitations in the capital.
He boarded the plane that took him to Guayaquil, arriving at the main port at 9:15, where two reporters from Teleamazonas awaited to interview him live while dozens of people conglomerated outside the airport cheered Jefferson’s name. The reporters began a series of questions that Jeff answered slowly to the viewers’ pleasure. Time was short since the athlete had to continue with his tight schedule. The next turn was for TC Television whose station is located in front of the airport. Once there he was interviewed on the program “Cosas de Casa”, where a youthful band played the “Chola Cuencana”, while clowns and other entertainers performed in front of the champion to the tune of the music. Once at an outdoor set readied for this special interview, the presenters and guest began a pleasant conversation that lasted approximately until 10:00 a.m.
After this interview Jeff visited different media where the champion’s appearances had been previously arranged. At noon executives and authorities of the Olympic Committee had planned a lunch in honor of the champion in the club “La Unión”. This event began with the intervention of the city’s mayor Jaime Nebot, in whose speech he praised the sporting achievement of Jefferson Pérez, but above all he said to admire the great human being and excellent representative of our country. A gift was presented to the athlete, and the mayor promised to prepare another event to give tribute on behalf of the Town Council in the next few days, during which land property was to be presented to Jeff, where he could enjoy his vacations and specially to make this a concentration area during his training at sea level.
In this way the champion left the city of Guayaquil where he will return in the next few days to comply with several invitations. He will continue to visit other provinces of our country to participate in several invitations made by different institutions.
