Jefferson Honored by the Fox Network as the Best Athlete of the Year at the Awards Ceremony in Miami
UNITED STATES, 21/12/2007. Jefferson Perez, considered by many to be the best athlete of all time from Latin America, along with Alberto Juantorena, Javier Sotomayor or Ivan Pedroso, was in Miami Wednesday night to receive the award of Best Athlete of Latin America of 2007. The ceremony, organized by the Fox Network, took place at the Fillmore Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach and will be broadcast next Sunday night, December 16, on Fox Sports to more than 33 million homes in the United States and Latin America.
In addition to considering his athletic triumphs this year that earned him the award, it recognizes the talent and effort shown by Jeff during almost 20 years of an impeccable sports career.
It's something very important, not only for my career, but also for my country since sportsmen are the best ambassadors of our nation. Like a trademark, Ecuador is known all over the world, thanks to our efforts, fair play, high principles and physical and technical ability. For these reasons it is a great pleasure to receive this type of recognition from a network as important as Fox. I invite all my Ecuadorian fellow citizens to take pleasure from this award and to receive it as something motivational, spurring us to make a great country by means of all of our activities.
Jefferson plans to return to Ecuador this weekend to continue a series of activities of social work with his Foundation, whose fundamental purpose is to provide education, health and nutrition to children and young people from Ecuador's low-income families, and to bring a measure of happiness, love and solidarity to all the nation.
